Museum and art museum
From museums that provide information about local history, culture, and special products to modern art galleries, these facilities fill the mind with knowledge as they inspire the heart. Each provides a different view of the world, allowing visitors to expand their horizons and appreciate Hokkaido from a new point of view.
Learn about the cosmos in the “Town of Starry Skies”, or study the mysteries of the ocean in the “Town of Drift Ice”. The vastness of Eastern Hokkaido further inspires the imagination. Filled with the warmth of trees and nature, this “land of dreams” will bring you back to the wonders of your childhood.
The 250 km stretch of road connecting the base of the Daisetsu mountains to the Tokachi Plains is known as “The Hokkaido Garden Pass”. Along the road are eight breathtaking sightseeing gardens. There is also a park painstakingly built by a single person.
At the foot of the Daisetsu Mountains, there is an aquarium, fittingly known as the “Mountain Aquarium”. It’s said to be full of “bests in Japan” and “world firsts”. It includes opportunities to learn about the salmon Hokkaido is famous for, and the mysterious marimo algae balls of Lake Mashu.
