Akkeshi Municipal Ota Tonden Pioneering Museum
Hokkaido, Japan's northern frontier, started developing and defending against foreign nations by the Meiji government as part of its modernization policy. It was the samurai warriors who were assigned to settle and colonize in Akkeshi Ota. In 1991, this museum opened to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the colonization.
