Goto Sumio Museum of Art
Goto Sumio is one of Japan's most prominent artists, and a master of nihonga, a distinctly Japanese style of painting using naturally-derived pigments. Drawn by the raw power and beauty of Hokkaido's nature, Goto set up a studio in Kamifurano Town at the foot of Mt. Tokachi, which with the completion of a new building is now the Goto Sumio Museum of Art. Goto's works feature the landscapes of Hokkaido, China, and Nara Prefecture, and include some stunningly large-scale paintings. Here, surrounded by his numerous works of art, visitors can be swept into the vibrant world of Goto's vision. The restaurant uses premium local ingredients, and on clear days provides a panoramic view of the Tokachi mountain range.
