Goto Sumio Museum of Art
Goto Sumio is one of Japan's most prominent artists and a master of nihonga, Japanese style-paintings using naturally-derived pigments. Drawn by the severe beauty of Hokkaido, Goto set up a studio in Kamifurano Town, at the foot of Mt. Tokachi, and later opened a new building for his museum. Goto's works feature the landscapes of Hokkaido, Nara, and China, including some stunningly large-scale paintings. Here, surrounded by his numerous works of art, visitors can be swept into the vibrant world of Goto. The onsite restaurant serves delightful dishes made from premium local ingredients with a panoramic view of the Tokachi mountain range on clear days.
