Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art
This art museum is situated within Tokiwa Park, a popular leisure venue for locals that is about 20 minutes on foot from JR Asahikawa Station. Asahikawa's plentiful forest resources support a booming woodworking industry. The city is renowned for artisan furniture, a unique aspect of local culture, which is prominently displayed at the Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art. The theme of the collection is "shaping wood," with numerous works including statues, crafts, furniture, and traditional woodcrafts. The building itself was designed by architect Yoshiya Tanoue, who had a hand in many prominent buildings throughout Hokkaido.
