Kushiro City Museum is situated on a hilltop alongside Lake Harutori, recognizable by its striking architecture that symbolizes Kushiro's city bird, the tancho crane, spreading its wings. As the appearance would suggest, the museum is filled with facilities to learn about Kushiro's nature and history. Visitors will be captivated by displays including an enormous mammoth skeleton specimen, the jawbone of a blue whale, and intricate dioramas depicting the creatures of Kushiro's wetlands in their natural environments. There are also a large number of displays related to Hokkaido's indigenous Ainu people.
