Kitami Mint Memorial Museum
Mint cultivation throughout the Kitami region began around 1897. At its peak around 1935, Kitami's mint industry accounted for a staggering 70% of the world’s mint market. Mint was originally selected as a major crop for this region due to its resistance to cold, its relatively easy cultivation, and high market value. The Hokuren Kitami Mint Factory has greatly contributed to the mint industry. Initially, this museum was a research facility for Hokuren Kitami Mint Factory, which was later donated to Kitami City and renovated into the museum where visitors can learn all about the world of mint.
