Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen
A hot spring located beside Lake Shikaribetsu, a natural lake, found 810 meters above sea level.
Lake Shikaribetsu is the only natural lake in Daisetsuzan National Park.
It is located 810 meters above sea level and is the highest lake in Hokkaido.
An endemic species of Miyabe char, a type of trout, inhabit this lake.
There is also a local specie of hare which are often referred to as living fossils, known as Pika, that inhabit the surrounding virgin forests of Sakhalin fir, Yezo spruce, and Erman’s birch.
This is where you’ll find Lake Shikaribetsu Onsen (Shikaoi).
Welling up on that land is Lake Shikaribetsu hot spring (Shikaoi Town).
