Utoro Onsen is a hot spring that is sourced from Shiretoko, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. It is located within the Utoro district next to the town of Shari on the Shiretoko Peninsula.
To get here, it takes about 45 minutes by car from JR Shiretokoshari Station.
Although this hot spring area has a surprisingly short history, many visitors enjoying Shiretoko stay at the inns that line this hot spring district.
Boasting over a 100 years of history, Onneyu hot spring was opened in 1899. Among the areas of Saroma, Kitami, Onneyu and Abashiri, It is the leading spring resort. Before Lake Nukabira existed, this was a hot spring which had been soothing people since the beginning of the Taisho Period. This town is appropriately named Nukabira Gensenkyo (as it translates literally as town of holiday homes, rice bran and source) and every inn in this town has spring water coming directly from the hot spring source. Its lavish hospitality will always appeal to fans of hot springs.
Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen
Lake Shikaribetsu is located in the highest area in Hokkaido The hot spring wells up close to the lake. That is Lake Shikaribetsu hot spring, there are two hotels where you can enjoy its hot spring water. There is a short period in the winter season which can be enjoyed. When through the ice of the frozen Shikaribetsu lake, the hot spring bath appears.
