About 20 minutes on foot from JR Kushiro Station, located along the Kushiro River, you will find a brick building called "Kobunkan" (Port Culture Museum). It's quite close to Nusamai Bridge. A restoration of the former Kushiro Shinbun Newspaper Company office building originally built in 1908, Kobunkan is notable for its nostalgic, old-fashioned exterior. The museum displays include plenty of materials about renowned poet Takuboku Ishikawa, who worked for Kushiro Shinbun as a journalist during a 76-day stay in Kushiro. There is a statue of Ishikawa adjacent to the building. Kobunkan also serves as a place of relaxation for Kushiro's citizens, and includes a cafe area on the first floor.
