Okhotsk Tokkari Center
"Tokkari" is the Ainu word for "Azarashi" (earless seal), and as the center's name would imply, this facility specializes in earless seals. It provides a valuable scientific understanding of these graceful seals and close-up interactive activities for visitors. The center also works on treating earless seals that have been injured or caught in fishing nets, and returning them home to the ocean. The Okhotsk Tokkari Center plays an extremely important role as the only marine animal conservation facility in Japan.
