Gyoko no Oka Abashiri Phlox Park
This scenic hillside overlooks Lake Abashiri. During Eastern Hokkaido's short summer, some 150,000 moss phlox plants vibrantly blossom across vast fields spanning about 10 hectares -- twice the area of Tokyo Dome. The breathtaking scenery in the distance and magnificent flower fields up close are truly the best of both worlds. Who made this beautiful park possible? A group of volunteer retirees with an average age of 67 years spent about eight years creating it. "Gyoko no Oka" means "Fortune Hill", and you will surely feel blessed to stand here.
