“Kitanomegumi Tabemarche” was an event held in 2010 as a main project of the commemorative events of the 120th anniversary of Asahikawa, the city that has Asahiyama zoo. It made a huge market of 1.6km long appear in the center of Asahikawa. The area includes “Heiwa-dori Kaimono Koen”, the first pedestrian-only outdoor shopping mall in Japan, as well as “Tokiwa Koen”, the park listed as one of the most beautiful 100 city parks in Japan. The market was lined with as many as 200 sales booths which attracted around 800,000 people in 3 days. It became the largest food event in Hokkaido. “Tabemarche” was held to promote “Northern Hokkaido”, a source of food in Japan, across the nation. Northern Hokkaido has abundant agricultural products and marine products both fresh and processed, along with local dishes. Some new local dishes like “Attaka Asahikawa-man” (steamed bun) and “Asahikawa Shoyu Yakisoba” (fried noodle) was made for this event.
