About the Restaurant

Kamikawa-cho, located near the center of Hokkaido, is situated on the north side of Daisetsuzan National Park, the largest national park in Japan. Near the park, in Daisetsu Asahigaoka, is the home of the Fratello Di Mikuni restaurant, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of Mt. Daisetsu.

The all-white panoramic view of Mt. Daisetsu is just like a frosty fantasy world.

Daisetsu – Asahigaoka, the area located around the foot of Mt. Daisetsu, is called The Garden Where Gods Play, or “ Kamuimintara” in native Ainu language.

The owner chef of Fratello Di Mikuni is Mr. Kiyomi Mikuni, a master of French cuisine. Visitors can enjoy rich authentic French-Italian fusion dishes with a magnificent view of Mt. Daisetsu. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy such an experience.

Visitor Reviews

I visited there at the beginning of December on a Saturday. Here is a view from the highway interchange near Asahigaoka.

A view of the pastures and farms at the bottom of Mt. Daisetsu in winter, covered under a snow-white blanket.

The restaurant is located on the top of a hill in the Morino Garden, in a quiet winter scene.

Overlooking the snow scape of Asahigaoka and the Daisetsu mountain range from inside the warm restaurant. I was so satisfied with the lunch course and drink.

Appetizers included squash, farm vegetables, and prosciutto. The fluffy texture and hearty taste of the squash put a smile on my face.

I enjoyed the fresh taste and aroma of the leak and bottarga spaghetti.

The main dish was sautéed Shiretoko chicken with Kometsuya eggs scrambled on the side. Kometsuya eggs have white yolks and are produced by hens raised on Hokkaido rice at the Takeuchi Ranch in Otofuke, Tokachi.

Their cuisines are mellow and have a gentle taste, melting in my mouth. Their prime location overlooks a white graceful view.

I felt like my body was fusing with the power and purity of the local ingredients. I am thankful for the wonderful food and hospitality.

Asahigaoka is covered in snow in the winter. It is far from Asahikawa city, but there is a superb view that was beyond my imagination. The food itself is worth the special trip. Why don’t you come visit The Garden Where Gods Play and see for yourself?
