Bon Appetit, Picnic in the middle of the field in Tokachi
The Tokachi Plain is a major producer of agricultural products in Hokkaido. There are nothing but fields as far as the eye can see. Despite the vastness of the farmers’ fields, we are not allowed into them. So, we can only learn about the agriculture of Tokachi indirectly, such as through farmer’s markets. However, now there is a new tour where visitors can go inside the fields and also enjoy lunches there too. The Noujo (Farm) Picnic tour, organized by the Itadakimas Company, is fast becoming a popular activity.
About the Tour
The tour below is an example.
You can go to an authentic farm in Tokachi, not just a farm made for tourists.
People can gather at the farm and enjoy it together. The farms change depending on the season. Once there, you have to put on special rubber boots for the farm to prevent the spread of epidemics.
Visitors can walk around the farm, but please be careful of the crops.
Visitors can also experience harvesting crops (tour guides will show you how).
Enjoy fresh vegetables there (I took a bite of a young corn)!
How delicious! Freshly harvested by myself!
You can enjoy lunch time or snack time!
A portable kitchen is set up at the farm, where a staff member cooks a terrific lunch.
Everyone is seated and says, “Itadakimasu (Bon appetite)!”
A temporary tent in the middle of the field.
This is a juicy sandwich with bread made from Tokachi flour. It is just an example of lunch time.
The Tour Changes Depending on the Season
The tour details are set up depending on the season and what vegetables are available.
The start of the 2015 menu is in spring.
A variety of authentic farms are open to the public, including the cheese factory, rapeseed field, wheat field, potato field, corn field, and yam field.
Please enjoy and have a great experience during each seasonal event.
