Furano and Biei are made up of beautiful meadows that spread from the foot of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. The picturesque landscape is often the stage for TV commercials, TV dramas, and movies. Furano features lavender fields, which are best seen in July, and the colorful flower hills, known as “hanabatake-no-oka.” Other well-known places like, Windy Garden and Stone House have become the stage for a several television series.
Recommended sights in Biei include Patchwork Road, Panorama Road, “Hill with the Red Roof,” and the cobalt-colored Blue Pond. During the summer, the sightseeing train, Norokko, which travels from Asahikawa trough Biei to Furano, offers a relaxing ride through beautiful scenery.
Summer is the best season to see the array of beautiful flowers on offer. However, there are spectacular views of crimson and gold hills in autumn, while winter showcases the vast land blanketed in pure white snow. There’s something beautiful and unique during each season in the countryside of Furano and Biei.
